1. ) count a measurement of how good or popular someone or something is:
The guide gives restaurants a rating from 1 to 10.
popularity/approval rating: The president's popularity rating fell for the first time since the election.
high/low rating: The university consistently receives a high rating for the quality of its research.
2. ) count a letter or letters and sometimes a number that show how old someone needs to be before they are allowed to see a particular movie:
A G rating means the movie is appropriate for anyone.
3. ) ratings plural the number that tells how many people watched or listened to a particular television or radio show:
Regional news programs need to improve their ratings.
high/low ratings: Her new series had high ratings right from the start.
a ) a list showing which shows have the most people watching or listening to them:
Quiz shows were top of the ratings that year.
